Rebel: Clary Fray
Significance: Main character in The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare
Story: Clary is a seemingly normal 16 year old girl who's world gets turned upside down when she enters the world of Shadow Hunting. She finds out that she herself is a shadow hunter and that all the tales about mythical creatures she has heard as a child are true. she must adjust to her new world all while of course being a teenage girl.
Rebellion: Although Clary is a Shadow Hunter (a half angel and a half human) and is considered better then "Downworlders" ( half demon half human including werewolfs, vampires, and warlocks) by the strict government called The Clave, Clary fights for equal rights among all people. something that we have seen time and time again in American history.
Cause: Not only does Clary morally disagree with everyone not having equal rights, but she is also fighting for her best friend who because of her becomes a vampire as well as her father figure who is a werewolf. With those two causes together it is enough to drive Clary to make a change.
Sacrifice: Clary is forced to make many sacrifices in order to support her cause, some of those include putting her life in danger on multiple occasions. In the 5th book, The City Of Fallen Angels her loved one's lives are put in dancer when Clary's evil brother Sebastian is on a rampage to kill everyone who is not on his side, this includes downworlders. Sebastian takes Jace, Clary's boyfriend hostage, and Clary rebels against the direct orders of the Clave to go after Jace ans stop Sebastian .
Evidence: "L'amor che move il sole e l'altre stelle.
"It means that love is the most powerful force in the world. That love can do anything.”~ Jace Lightwood

Rebel: Jeanine Mathews
significance: antagonist in Divergent series by Veronica Roth
story: Jeanine Mathews happens to be portrayed as the villain in the Divergent series. She is the leader of one of five "factions" in the new government of what is supposed to be America. Jeanine sees this government as being corrupt and wants to change it.
rebellion: Jeanine rebels against the other four factions in order to gain power. She thinks that her way of leading will eventually benefit everyone and she stops at nothing to succeed.
cause: Jeanine is not the kind of rebel you route for, she doesn't exactly have good intentions, her cause is mostly for her benefit but to hr that is enough to be willing to sacrifice everything.
sacrifice: Jeanine had a lot to gain, but she had just as much to lose. If she had succeeded in her cause, she would have gotten everything, but because she lost, like a lot of rebels do, she sacrificed her freedom and eventually was killed, however she took the change and that was her sacrifice.
evidence: "The system removes the threat of anyone practicing their independent will. Divergence threatens that system. It won't be safe until they're removed" Jeanine Mathews

Rebel: Beatrice "Tris" Prior
Significance: Main character in the Divergent series.
Story: Tris is a 16 year old girl who lives in what used to be Chicago before there war that changed America forever. A new government system was put into place, Chicago is split put into 5 different Factions: Dauntless, for those who are brave, Abnegation, for those who are selfless, Erudite, for those who are intelligant, Amity, for those who are peaceful, and Candor, for those who are honest. At age 16 you must choose which faction you want to live in, "faction before blood" is the motto that everyone is supposed to follow however it is rare, especially in abnegation the faction Tris and her family live in to choose a different faction considering it "selfish" . However when Tris discovers that she is something called "divergent" something that that the government does not allow she makes an act of defiance and choosing arguably the most different fraction from abnegation, dauntless.
Rebellion: Tris learns quickly that the government is corrupt and stops at nothing to change it. In the first book she rebels against the government leaders in order to stop their plans to kill all the divergent. In the second book, Insurgent, Tris rebels against her own family to stop what she knows is more important. And in the third book, Allegiant, Tris discovers that the entire city of Chicago is one big experiment full of " genetically damaged"(GD's) and the fact that tris is Divergent actually means that she is "genetically pure" (GP's) and is quite average outside of Chicago. Tris's biggest rebellion is in this 3rd and last book when she rebels in order to get equality between GD'sand GP's.
Cause: One of the things that remains the same in all three books is Tris's cause. The reason why she did all that she did was simply for the greater good. Of course she did it for herself and her loved ones but she also did it for everyone around her, no matter what faction or blood type, she did what she had to do for the sake of the people around her.
Sacrifice: In the first book, Tris sacrifices the life of both her parents as well as killing her friend in order to support her cause. In the second book, Tris gives up her freedom in order to help her rebellion and her loved ones. In the third book, Tris gives her life in order to save the lives of 1000's. This pure act of sacrifice and selflessness is the greatest act of rebellion you can give, and she, is in my opinion the greatest fictional rebel in modern literature.
Evidence: "There are so many ways to be brave in this world. Sometimes bravery involves laying on your life fr something bigger then yourself, or for someone else. sometimes it involves giving up everything you have ever known, or everyone you have ever loved, for the sake of something bigger" ~Tobias Eaton
